Down The Block is a community website where people can gather to share photos and memories of landmarks and places in their neighborhoods. Founded in 2018, Down The Block was a student web project made by the founder, Ellen Chan, when she was learning how to build websites on WordPress and PHP for the first time. The idea came to her when coming across a shop stylized to look like the J train in an Orlando shopping mall, which stirred up a nostalgic sense of longing. Down The Block is a dedication to her memories and life growing up in Brooklyn.
